I have a '78 F250 with a 6V53 Detroit and I put a Gear Vendors overdrive in it. Helped a lot on the highway. Before she was at 2800 RPM at 70 MPH and you'd go deaf after a trip down the interstate.

what trans are you running? Im not sure how the 353s are but most everyone told me the 453t needed closer to a 8 speed because of the broad power spread on them..

Can you get more top-end out of it with more gears or bigger tires? Will it pull it if ya did?
I keep hearing you say the top end is low... Does it still have the low gears intended for the big gas engine?

go with a 6v53 instead if your worried about power. People have also twin turboed those also.

im thinking about doing this with my dad and i had a question. why would i want to put this engine in instead of the 8 cylinder that the truck comes with? isnt that lowering the amount of power?

the truck gets excellent millage 28 in town 30 on the highway the top end is low 60 some mph but it will pull anything. It's all in what you want. We choose a engine that you just don't see in every truck

@024reredrum 411, it now has 35 x 17 wheels and tires a lot more top end
