Have you seen the Mahalia documentary, "The Power and the Glory"? Well worth it. There are 2 discs, one with her life story. The 2nd is all live performances.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have definitely seen the documentary. I actually own it.

For those of you who may be misled, the performances on the 2nd disc aren't live as far as having an audience, but you are able to see Mahalia singing the songs in a big studio, with scenery. Several of the black & white footage have been posted to YouTube.

I've actually seen the DVD documentary in WalMart for a very reasonable price. If you can't find it there, you may find it in other music stores like FYE...or you can order it online. It's called THE POWER & THE GLORY!.

I grew up listening to Mahalia Jackson. I learned to sing by singing along. I learned to praise God after I truly understood what Mahalia was signing about.

October 26, 2011 will mark the 100th anniversary of her birth. I hope gospel musicians and gospel music lovers alike will take time to review her vast contribution, and indelible mark she left on the world. She really was about GOD'S business!
