Note: This is the last episode of Ryan's Hope, episode # 3515 aired Friday January 13, 1989. It was written by creator Claire Labine and directed by veteran director Lela Swift. The episode was taped over a two day period (January 4 & 5, 1989). Kate Mulgrew had agreed to appear onscreen as Jack's late wife Mary Ryan, a part she played from 1975 to 1978, but her schedule wouldn't permit her to leave LA and fly to NY for the taping. Her voiceover was done over the phone. Louise Shaffer also returns as Rae Woodard after a 5 year absence for a cameo. In the last few years, Louise had become a writer on the show. Irving Allen Lee and Lydia Hannibal (Dr. Evan Cooper and Chris Hannold) can be seen in the background of the party scenes but have no lines.

For this last episode, each scene will be uploaded separately.

  • I want to cry every time I see this scene. So much history and so much emotion. How fitting that Kate Mulgrew/Mary was in the opening scene of the 1st episode and opening scene of the last.

  • My grandmother actually made this show

  • This show had such a good feel to it the first two-three years and the end. It's too bad the network had to screw with it.

  • Wow, how many cigarettes had Mary been through whilst in heaven? Or whiskey, maybe :)

  • Micks could always make you cry.

  • beautiful! Jack and Mary as well as Maeve were the heart of this show. Thanks for sharing!

  • @VaultMasterDBT Haha, I call her Grandmere actually, but I was thinking about watching through Ryan's Hope over the summer.

  • Sorry, I wasn't trying to blow your anonymity too much. :) As an industry-savvy person, I tend to figure these things out pretty quickly. You should be proud of Dad, Auntie Eleanor and Grandma Claire for giving us thousands of compelling TV hours. Their work on GH and OLTL struck incredible chords during the 1990s, but Ryan's Hope will forever be a treasure.

  • @VaultMasterDBT Matt, but OH NO NOW YOU KNOW WHO I AM!!!

  • Matt or Eleanor's kid?
