The best DVR is a desktop PC running MythTV. I recommend an OS which includes MythTV. Mythbuntu is the best media center OS I have ever used.

Alex, switch to Ubuntu. Ubuntu is 100% free, and its parent company offers affordable commercial support and will gladly assist you in switching to Ubuntu. Stop being a hypocrite and ditch the Microsoft/Apple crapware for Ubuntu.

Bill Gates was the first to truly break away from this cycle and now he is one of the richest people on the face of the earth, so what point were you trying to make again?
My point is that without competition, the market will fail.
That's like saying that the Government should control the software market, it's a bad bad idea.

@xnmrphr If you read the EULA for PS3 or XBox 360 both clearly state either company can do whatever they want including spying on you using their camera based controllers like the XBox uses. That is why they are pushing to end PC gaming in part and it is why I will stick to playing them on my PC.
