READ BELOW--SORRY FOR LOW RES VIDEO, IT HAS TO BE STANDARD DEFINITION FOR MY DEMO REEL DVD.

This is my most recent motion capture scene. We were given a character that we had to rig, setup facial morphs, and customize to fit the scene. The character was not that great but I ended up putting some clothes on him and customizing his mustache and hair to look like it should for my scene. We then had to pick a scene from a movie that involved something being done with the hands, talking, and moving around. There were some rules in place so and it had to be between 20-30 secs so I chose the 1st Jonah Jameson scene from the 1st Spiderman movie. I then had to direct an actor in a motion capture suit to perform as Jameson would. One of the rules was the character had to be standing and not sitting the whole time so I just made him pace around unlike the original where he was sitting behind the desk at the whole time. Once the data was captured, I cleaned it up and animated the proper contraints for when he picks up the phone in Motion Builder. I did the lipsync and facial animation, then brought it all back into Lightwave 3d.

In addition to the Mocap cleanup and facial animations, I modeled the enviroment and did all the texturing and lighting.

  • Damn, I am jealous now, you are really getting to the good stuff with motion capture suites, now I wish I went to school for it to, I would of hadso much fun there, you are really doing well, great job on everything, nothing at all i can say bad about it, you really are learning quickly.

  • @mk11174new Thanks so much Matt! I always look forward to your opinions of this stuff :) The motion capture directing was fun... I dont know if you have ever messed around with mocap data but you can find precaptured stuff online for free.. they are .C3D files.

  • @mk11174new You can take that data and apply it to a character.. I had one that was doing the thriller dance.lol I have 2 more mocap scenes I will be rendering soon for my demo reel so I will post those too. Working on a final project for this class now and we are back to hand keying... then its on to VFX and compositing.

  • @cottonproductions You are at a much higher level then me now ;-] Cant wait to see all your new projects you have to do.

  • @cottonproductions yep, i have played with motion capture data only in max, i tinkered with motion builder but was pretty confusing so i didnt go any further in there, but i do have many motion capture data files doing numerous everyday things, i found them online and of coarse the ones that come with max and also poser, so i have quite a few, but always wanted to do my own in a suite and learn how to turn that data into motion for the rigs using motion builder.
