Welcome to CDE121: Best Practices for Teaching Online!
Im your instructor, Michael Edwards.
In this course well be investigating the ways in which online and blended learning can transcend the traditional classroom. In this sense, distance learning doesnt have to be a crippled shadow of what you might call real class, but rather I hope you will come to see it as a valid and robust alternative to traditional classroom teaching. However, making the transition from a classroom teacher to a blended or online teacher isnt necessarily obvious or easy.
My hope is that this class can equip you for such a transition, or move you further along if you are already teaching in online or blended modalities.
Throughout this class we will be reading, watching, discussing, sharing, and creating. Youll get to see some exciting ideas about how you design your course, how you deliver it, and you will get hands-on experience using various Web 2.0 and Social Media tools.
Youll also get to refine your thoughts and ideas by hearing the voice of your peers and me, your instructor.
All in all, I hope the next 5 weeks is a valuable experience for you and that you come away with more ideas, more experience, and a bigger palette of tools and strategies for improving your work as a teacher.
