Ah, the old days of Southern CA membership stores. GEMCO stands out along with ZODYS, FEDCO and other defunct stores as a classic fixture. I have many fond memories of this store as my mom bought me my very first record albums, MICKEY MOUSE DISCO and MOTHER GOOSE NURSERY RHYMES as a store in Bellflower CA. This commercial will bring back memories for many native SoCal people and others.

Recorded in 1981 on KHJ 9. There is another person that has posted this same video but I am THE original person who posted this video! That person STOLE it from me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Gemco in La Mesa, CA was in a shopping center that was built after they tore down La Mesa Elementary School, my first alma mater.

    We still have a 1978 Zenith TV bought there, Still works, too!

  • I used to go with my mom to the Gemco near Whittier in the 70s and 80s. They had an Orange Julius inside that sold pretzels.

  • i remember when i was a kid i lived in Oakland and we would always go to the Gemco in San Lorenzo Ca on hesperian Blvd . it closed and was a Target for many years now it's a Wal Mart ,

  • This looks 80s, but I remember Gemco in the 70s (maybe late 60s?) I think you can still get a crap coffee maker for about the same price. he-he.
