Going to see this tomorrow in Glasgow with Tim Mead in the title role. Really looking forward to it. As an 'ex pat' living in Scotland, Handel's music makes me feel very English and is a great antidote to the stresses and strains of life. There is something so comforting about it

More and more reason(s) for looking past 'Messiah'. Not to knock it—'Messiah' is a great work but it's far from the only great work Handel ever did. This one, Alcina and Giulio Cesare. are all masterpieces. From the operas Xerxes and a few others aren't far behind. Then there's the Oratorios … Theodora, Solomon, Semele … a prolific writer of great music.

I just found that this is Orlando de Haendel, Zürich 2007, with Orlando Marijana Mijanovic, Martina Janková as Angelica, Christina Clark as Dorinda, Katharina Peetz as Medoro, conducted by William Christie.

Indeed it is one of the most beautiful moments in Orlando. But who is singing? and what are the details of this production? It looks like a farce, as it is so fashionable now, but it was surely not meant to be staged so silly. The voices are marvelous, though.
