Introduction by Gwenn Jenson, Ph.D. and clip of Dr. Masako Kusayanagi Miura. Dr. Miura talks about the relationship between the Japanese American doctors and their patients.

Dr. Miura was born in 1914 and went to school in the Los Angeles area. She completed both her pre-medical and medical education at USC before World War II. She was training as a resident in Dermatology at L.A. County General Hospital in Los Angeles in 1941 at the outbreak of World War II. During the war she was one of only five physicians at the Manzanar Relocation Camp. After the war, Dr. Miura finished her residency and practiced in Little Tokyo before relocating to the Monterey Bay area.

The video clip was prepared for the Discover Nikkei program, "Japanese Hospital: Caring for the Pre-war Nikkei Community" at the Japanese American National Museum, Tateuchi Democracy Forum on Saturday, April 11, 2010. The program was co-sponsored by the Little Tokyo Historical Society.
