I feel like a nerd posting this, but someone wanted to see it.

Today Ubuntu 10.10 was released. I have an old Compaq computer laying around that I decided to try it out on. I was pretty amazed at the speed, even for this computer!

The specs of this machine are...
Pentium III 550 MHz, 512 MB RAM, 10 GB IDE Hard Drive, LG DVD-ROM, Mitsubishi CD-RW, 8 MB ATI Rage Graphics.

  • @91jmda I actually just installed Crunchbang on this system the other day. It seems to work just as well as Lubuntu, to be honest.

However, I got wireless headphones for Christmas, and I use this system as a "server" for my music on it.

  • fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2

...had to do a double take there.

  • It boots this nicely AND you encrypted the drive? wow!
