From Free Speech America at www.freespeechamerica.us:
Governor Bredesen of Tennessee is asking the state legislature to raise the tax on cigarettes by 40 cents. He was in Chattanooga telling the people of Tennesee his plan to improve funding and to modify the Basic Education Program, the increase in funding will come from the cigarette tax. The video here is an excerpt from his speech on May 21m 2007.
Four months ago, I stopped smoking. So may the children in Tennessee go hungry in school, isn't that wonderful? Instead of condeming me for smoking, people should have been thanking me. Of course, we all know that if money went to schools every time they said it would, Tennessee would have the best education in the nation instead of one of the worst. Hey, just to be "fair", why not tax a fatty fast food burger to $15.00? How many people die from Big Mac attacks?

The reason they do this gradually is the "frog in the pan of water" syndrome. Only vote for people who promise to limit government spending and expansion. And then, hold their feet to the fire if they begin to stray. What do you call 50,000 politicians and bureaucrats at the bottom of the ocean? A GOOD START!!!!

Remember, folks, these usury tax schemes of theirs take years, sometimes decades to come to full fruition. They take their time, gradually, slowly, inexorably, because we almost always GIVE them the time that they need, and they know it!

If they realize that they may not be around long enough to reap any ill gotten benefits from their theft of public funds, they will be a lot less likely to start these schemes in the first place. By doing this, we can take the wind right out of their sails! After all, just whose money is it, anyway? Ours? Or theirs?

How many more times are we going to allow this plot to be crammed down our throats before we finally wake up and put a stop to it? Think you can't? YOU CAN!!! Never, EVER vote for any incumbent! Also, never vote to increase or eliminate term limits! These limits are sometimes the only safeguard we have left to scrape off some of these crooks!

"And why is there never any extra money that could be put into a surplus account to be used when emergencies come around? Oh, I see! You consider us taxpayers as that "surplus account", to be tapped over and over at your whim!" And of course we shouldn't complain should we? Because, after all, you know better than we what is best for us, right? And of course, IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN!!!

"Gee, Mr. state representative, what happened to all that tax money that we have already given you to take care of running the state? Can it be that maybe you shouldn't have awarded your brother-in-law that 46 million dollar contract to build that bridge to nowhere? Couldn't that money have been spent to help with this current problem instead of coming to us for more?"

Try to see through the politicaleze to find what they are REALLY telling you the money is for. "We need it to build a new road", translates to: "I need a new driveway!" "It's for a very important waterworks project!" translates to: "I want a pool in my backyard!" "It's to fund schoolchildren!" translates to: "I want you suckers to pay for my children's private school education all the way through college!" This list goes on forever, folks.

Instead of laying the blame where it truly belongs, on themselves for being greedy over spenders of other peoples money, they will do anything and everything to make YOU feel guilty for not wanting to give them more of your hard earned dollars to fund their "noble" and most "worthy" pet projects.
