@CMOSjockey Thanks for reply. Not sure what you mean about your last statement, to wit: "but no matter how well you sing, well, you must be bad at 40." Are you serious or being jocular or sarcastic? I ask because, to my own ear, singers are at their best in their 40s. Not sure, because of what you say about Nilsson's coming into her own at 40. For Wagnerians, this may often be the case, no? What you say about the US is chilling. Why, do you think, that is so?
@mckavitt The voices are there, just not the ability to train consistently. It is incredibly expensive, and the burden has been placed on the singers entirely, especially in the US. Those with lighter voices and some luck get into the young artist programms, and the rest, with the slower developing heavier voices, get shut out. And all the competitions arbitrarily cut them off. Nilsson had no career until 40, but no matter how well you sing, well, you must be bad at 40.
@Vincenzo2010an Yes, i realise this (visit my LISA DELLA CASA FAN CLUB page on fb), but i was asking the rather typical question: Where are such great voices and/or interpretations to be heard today? Not that i don't like many of whom i hear out there, but still...no more Siepis, no more Della Casas, etc. Thanks for confirming the sad news i'd heard of Siepi's death (at 87). I loved him so.
