This is a 22Lb fiberglas airplane that was completed designed and built by hand. It took about one and a half years for the entire design and construction process. The airplane just had its first successful maiden flight on May 1, 2010. It runs on a 5S LiPo a 2HP brushless motor turning a 13x9 APCE pusher prop.

  • Nice build. Is there some flex in the wing or are the shafts leading to the elevator/rudder flexing or is it just the long rods to the camera that makes the plane seem to be rollercoasting?

  • @Cjudd001 the wings have 3 5mm rods as connecting spars. They allow the wings to flex enough to alleviate some of the stresses. The "rollercostering" is due to the fact that the camera is on a 4 foot boom in front of the airplane, causing small pitch changes to appear larger.

  • what method did you use to construct it?

  • @TheRattleSnake3145 its a foam airplane, all custom designed and cut. The entire plane is then all laid up in fiberglass, smoothed, and painted

  • Why did you mount the camera so far forward?

  • Nothing beats Apollo 13!!!!!!!

  • love it, i have just made a very similar film, check it out anfd let me know what you think.

search youtube ... r/c model aircraft experiment

  • I am curious, what is the benefit to having the camera so far in front? Is it a CG thing so that you can run heavier cameras on a shorter boom in the future?

  • i have a similar camera pod. bearospace channel. episode 111 flight ot the lake. there are a couple of scenes with that shot. im sure you will enjoy. have fun bear.

  • 22lbs of airplane to carry such a small camera?!? W.P.O.C.

  • @Cjudd001 ... if putting a video camera on a plane teaches us anything, it's that everything flexes -- and the longer it is, the more it flexes. (And that boom is mighty long!)

  • I've added this to my favourites because I love the drama you've created! Well done.

  • @IncognitoShhh negitive

  • @magicmike1122 - you don't have a lot a friends do you?
