Scott answers Dee's (deeneenee) question about her check engine light and her husband, who is a master mechanic, tells her that she is pumping her gas wrong. Scott tells her the possible reason could be having to turn the gas cap several times because if not, it can cause your check gas engine light to come on because it is sensing no pressure and thinks there is a leak.

I shall now carry a pair of visegrips with me at all times, to help damsels in distress tighten their gas caps and turn off their engine lights.
Seriously though, I never knew the things could be that picky, but it doesn't surprise me.

I have a 2000 Chevy 1500 Silverado and this EXACT thing happened to me last week. My husband said I could have gotten a low grade of gas and to fill up next time with a different brand. The light did eventually go out, but THIS is an interesting concept. I will DEFINITELY make sure I turn my gas cap at least 3 clicks. Wow, thanks a bunch, Scott and Beth!!!
