This is a chick unzipping an egg and hatching while the broody hen (bantam silver-laced Wyandotte named June Bug) watches with her mothering eyes. The chick is offspring from my darling rooster, Chicken Little, and a pullet crossed with Welsummer and Silver Phoenix.

  • The look on your hens face after it hatched was classic! shes like 'omg I have a baby, its a baby!"

  • She was happy, wasn't she? She is one of those broody hens who wouldn't give up so I decided to give her two eggs to hatch. Even though she had no eggs to sit on out in the coop, she really, really wanted babies, so I gave her what she wanted. Now I have another Wyandotte bantam named Trudy who is doing the same thing. She won't give up either, even though she has nothing to hatch.
