The Robe, was nominated for five Academy Awards in 1953, including best picture and best actor. Burton stars as Marcellus Gallio, the Roman centurion charged with overseeing the crucifixion. But when he wins Christ's robe in a gambling game at the foot of the cross, his life is forever changed. The movie is based on a novel (fiction) yet it is inspiring, in its depiction of Christ's crucifixion and the power of His life and death, and the novel (written by Lloyd C. Douglas) has been read by tens of millions of readers..

As many times as I had seen this, I finally caught something one time when watching it. Demetrius says to Marcellus that friends can't be bought, even for 3000 pieces of gold, and then later what is the last thing each of them says to the other....."Goodbye, Friend."

We've got it so easy - comparatively speaking. We live, and love, and obey and we've got everlasting life. People back then? They had to truly suffer and die for Him for even saying His name. I wonder when times will change and we'll be back to that sacrifice again? Peace to all...

I don't remember, but this is supposed to be the first movie I was ever taken to see. It's one of the best sword-and-sandal movies from the era.

@1915fas Mature once said, "I could never really act, just ask anyone!", but I think he's underestimating how sincere and earnest he was in this film. He's believable in the role, especially considering he's playing against Burton and Simmons, etc. And (as you pointed out) his performance in 'My Darling Clementine' is highly thought of.  And that's a great scene with Judas.
