There's a difference between a limp and a polio, a limp is a temporary foot pain and a polio is a permanent disease in the legs but it doesn't stop the person from continuing to walk on 2 feet, so a polio is the cause where the viewers rarely see a person walk on-camera.

I thinks it's HYSTERICAL when someone slips on a banana peel or is clumsy...especially on TV...as twinkle toes Betty White was there :)
