Some more helpful tips in repairing an Antique radio.
I bought high quality electrolytic capacitors from tubesandmore.com. I don't trust the Chinese made caps. I bought exact value replacement axial lead caps from justradios.com. I bought resistors and from Mouser.com and just radios.com. Instead of 1/4 Watt I used double the rating at 1/2 Watt. For 1 Watt I used 2 Watt. Always check the DC Working Voltage of the parts and the schematic and get the equalent or higher.
Disclaimer: Antique Tube radios contain LETHAL voltages that can and will KILL YOU. Please read up on safety procedures. To avoid fire hazard, If radio wiring is too crumbled it should be replaced or covered with 600 volt heat shrink. If you are unsure. Take the radio to a qualified service person. Thanks!
Just finished recapping one of these, & have replaced most of the resistors (all were WAY beyond their tolerance). I'm having troubles finding a couple resistors, & was wondering if you had to tear apart any of the IF transformer cans to find resistors inside? I too saw evidence of "Mr. Goodpliers" having worked on my radio in the past. Found many wax/paper caps that were the wrong value, as well as the original electrolytics having been replaced (strapped in with bailing wire under the chassis)

2Thanks for all the good info. I wonder where you buy your caps and resistors? Did you have to buy several of each value resistor when buying them or did they sell them by each?
