President Jonathan Orders Relief for Koluama Gas Explosion Victims

President Goodluck Jonathan has visited the site of the gas explosion in koluama community in southern ijaw local government area of bayelsa state. The gas explosion which resulted in a huge fire outbreak occurred on the sixteenth of january in a facility belonging to chevron nigeria limited leaving a french and an indian dead with bodies not found. The fire which is yet to be put out is currently down to about three thousand feet with the help of the terrestrial rains. Addressing the elders, chiefs and youths of the affected communities, president goodluck jonathan ordered the national emergency management authority, nema to immediately send relief materials to the affected communities. In his remarks, the bayelsa state governor seriake dickson warned oil companied operating in the state to respect the environment and protect the ecosystem. Governor dickson said he has set up a legal and technical committee to appraise the legal possibilities in terms of enforcing state rights that are associated with environmental disaster and assessing the impacts of the incident on the environment and the economy.
