Come On Come On

Some people remember the first time, some can't forget the last
Some just select what they want to from the past
It's a song you danced to in high school, it's a moon you tried to bring down
On a four in the morning drive through the streets of town

Come on come on, it's getting late now
Come on come on, take my hand
Come on come on, you just have to whisper
Come on come on, I will understand

It's a photograph taken in Paris at the end of the honeymoon
In 1948, late in the month of June
Your parents smile for the camera in sienna shades of light
Now you're older than they were then that summer night

Come on come on, it's getting late now
Come on come on, take my hand
Come on come on, you just have to whisper
Come on come on, I will understand

It's a need you never get used to, so fierce and so confused
It's a loss you never get over the first time you lose
And tonight I am thinking of someone twenty years ago
We rode in his daddy's car down the River Road

Come on come on, it's getting late now
Come on come on, take my hand
Come on come on, you just have to whisper
Come on come on, I will understand

  • "Now you're older than they were then that summer night." Has there ever been a more powerful line written? I remember always thinking my parents were ancient. Then I saw a photograph of them and realized I was older than they were in that photo. Powerful song.

  • Undoubtedly one of all time geatest lyricists, who has blossomed into one of the most talented and honest of performers. My life has been richer ever since I first heard her voice, MCC has penned/song many great songs its hard to pick a single favourite, but "The Dreaming Road" is hard to beat. A little solitude and a few MCC songs is a real pleasure.

  • This is MCC's most powerful album. It's full of rich, powerful observations and statements about the nature of love that embraces romance, yet goes beyond it:) --

  • I LOVE MCC --

  • @75surfgirl I DID see her and her bff Shawn Colvin play a show in Philadelphia. It was just pure magic<3

  • Just gorgeous.

  • @ tregibbs-Hehe we're obviously a rare breed, or just discerning! Simple & Brilliant is a great way of describing it, not much more than her great voice and a guitar , yet the whole song is greater than the sum of its parts, I love how the story unfolds and draws the listener in, inviting you to take the journey, down the dreaming road, "I wasn't odd or strange, just quietly rearranged" what a fantastic lyric that is, so simple, yet so profound in the thoughts it provokes, I never tire of it :)

  • @SharedExperience - omg - you are the FIRST person I have ever met who feels the same way about "The Dreaming Road" as I do. It is one of the most beautifully written, powerful, romantic, hopeful songs I've ever heard. Simple and brilliant.... perfectly describes how love is rarely linear

  • Love this woman--Does anyone have my favorite song "Other streets & other towns"?

If you do ,please post it. Thank you. I seen her in person she was fabulous!

If you ever have the chance-go see her, you won't be sorry.

  • Come on come on down to Australia

  • This woman is AMAZING. I went on a road trip in June to see her in Arvada, CO, and played her CDs all the way. This was the first time I've seen her in concert, and now I can die happy. She did not sing "Come On Come On," but sang so many of my favorites. I've been hooked on MCC since "The Opening Act" and "The More Things Change." She played some new songs - so new they are not even on her latest, "The Age of Miracles" and they were great, so we can look forward to her next CD. LOVE HER.
