Triabetes is the world's largest triathlon club for people with diabetes, encouraging better health through multisport training and competition. In 2011, they raced Ironman St. George.
Triabetes helps people with diabetes meet others who share their recreational passions through multisport training and events. As with other Insulindependence clubs, members are served through Triabetes' common operating principles: bringing people with diabetes together; engaging them in physical activities; offering challenges for all ability and experience levels; fostering leadership development; and focusing on youth outreach.
Triabetes is a program of Insulindependence, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Insulindependence inspires people with diabetes to set personal fitness goals, educates them on adaptive management strategies through hands-on experience, and equips them to explore their individual capacities.
Insulindependence offers annual leadership training for participants volunteering as Captains, who work together to fulfill the organization's mission. Captains are expected to serve as positive athlete role models in their community, and proactively recruit fellow individuals with diabetes to adopt positive lifestyles. Their goal is to increase member participation in their respective regions through youth mentoring, local events, and online support.
Alongside Triabetes, Insulindependence offers a variety of fitness and recreation opportunities in the local, national and international diabetes communities. Visit the Insulindependence website (www.Insulindependence.org) to learn more.
