Stefan Everts wins the Red Bull Motorclash on the Wall

Two world champion drivers... One on a 450cc KTM Enduro bike and the other in a race ready Rally car.

Geraardsbergen, Belgium -- The duel was simple. Who would climb the cobblestone paved Geraardsbergen Wall in the shortest time, a fully setup Citroën C4 WRC Rally Race Car or a Red Bull sponsored KTM 450 cc SMR Motorcycle?

What is the Wall?

A 1,075 The climb has a length of just 2/3 of a mile but consists of an average grade of 9.3% and one section as steep as 19.8%!

Driver vs. Rider

The five time rally car champion and world renown Sébastien Loeb chose his weapon of choice, a Citroën C4 WRC Rally Race Car. On the bike was ten time world motocross champion Stefan Everts on a surprisingly small sized KTM 450 cc SMR Enduro bike. Both in a head to head climbing a mountain on pavement.

The Challenge

What started as an innocent competition between two top athletes turned into an exceptional duel. The race car driver Stefan Everts challenged Red Bull athlete Sébastien Loeb a few weeks ago.

The result?

Stefan Everts on the KTM bike bested the World Champion Rally Car driver and co-pilot in their race to the top. Sébastien Loeb, who was one tenth of a second behind, had to acknowledge the superiority of his compatriot.

Everts reached the top in 49:07 seconds vs. Loebs 49:17.

Competitors comments

Everts was as pleased as punch with this unexpected victory: "I surprised myself at my win. It's probably the only time this year that Sébastien will be beaten by anyone!"

One week before the bicycling worlds Ronde Van Vlaanderen explodes in all its fury on the Wall of Geraardsbergen, racing specialist Michel Wuyts was present at this challenging climb between the Car and the bike. He shared his knowledge of the Wall in the competition as Sébastien Loeb's co-pilot. An experience that did not leave him indifferent. "I've been to heaven and back. It was sheer magic. Sébastien made me realise that I'm really no good at driving a car. I wasn't afraid, because I was sitting next to the world champion."
