Sen. Ensign Goes After Czars - During Health Care Session

Sen. John Ensign believes that there are too many czars in the Obama administration, developing what he calls a "shadow cabinet." So he presents an amendment that whoever is appointed health czar should be confirmed. "A czar here, a czar there... it's completely out of control now," Ensign said, adding, "This is not a question of going after a Democratic president... We should have done this before... This is getting out of hand."

Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus is led to ask Ensign if his amendment should cover all czars and not just the health care czar. "We'd be wasting our time to try to track down every czar... and say that person is subject to Senate confirmation," Baucus says.

"If they have powers... they should be confirmed," Ensign argued. "This is not a shot at the administration."
