http://www.scottjoplin.org ** Michael Stalcup does a wonderful performance of a georgeous piece of music composed by Louis Moreau Gottschalk, entitled "Tournament Galop." Michael has delighted audiences at the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival for a few years, and it is exciting to witness his piano expertise! This was recorded during the After Hours Party on a Saturday night and, YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE!

  • Really nice job considering the piano he's playing on as well as the on-the-spot unprofessional recording. I like this guy because he plays this piece similar to the way I do. I love Gottschalk. If you want to find out where Gottschalk got the idea for this piece, just listen to Liszt's Grand Galop Chromatique. Gottschalk obviously knew Liszt's Galop and played a lot of Liszt as a budding prodigy. There are a lot of similarities between these two Galops.

  • Very much enjoyed his playing. Would love to have seen Gottschalk play it himself...what a great musician that so many know nothing about.
