Shots from the corner of Gratiot and Semrau in East Detroit (Eastpointe) during a parade in 1956. Also shown are Immanuel Methodist Church and Kay's Kitchen, a restaurant which operates today under the name Andary's. This footage was shot by Emil Lorey.

  • I was recently at a wedding at that church at 0:30

  • I worked at Kay's in the late 80's with Tom Jesse, Tracy Jesse and all of those nuts!! I bussed and washed dishes. Good times for sure. Never missed a parade!!

  • I grew up 3 houses down from Kays. Worked and met my husband there also. Been at several of the parades besides being in a few with my Girl Scout Troop. But what tops this footage the most was seeing my next door neighbor, Mrs. Lorey and part of my House that I grew up in. Thanks for sharing it.

  • Wow Great footage. I was just at Andarys last week. Great place.

  • The parade went the opposite way that it does now. They're going south on Gratiot.

  • kays kitchen is andarys now they have good food

  • very cool to see the old parade. Was that the one that had Joey Bishop, or Vivian Vance?

  • I didnt know Kay's kitchen has been there that long, I used to live on Semrau right down the street from it.

  • I was class of 91

  • Yep, 09
