  • They're called "snakeheads" due to their big, snakelike head with big round eyes and big mouth filled with sharp teeth. They're also called "mudfish" in some parts of Southeast Asia (their native range) for their ability to burrow in the mud when the river or lake dries up, only to re-emerge when the river starts flowing again.

    They certainly look menacing, aren't they??
