Take a tour of my closet! It's full of a sufficiently ridiculous number of elbow-patch sweaters and vintage kimonos. As you'd expect.

Most of my clothes tend toward vintage or thrift store craziness, or are newer, trendier pieces from Madewell, Urban Outfitters, Zara, and Forever 21. There's the odd splurge piece thrown in, usually something from The Kooples or Miu Miu or Chloe. I'm a fiend for anything country heritage or English woodlands as well--all of those plaid skirts and cozy knits and charming prints. I mix them with schoolboy blazers and cardigans. I'm big into Victorian and WWI-era menswear, I like to create an alternate history with my outfits where cravats, tailcoats, pocket watches, and plus-fours tucked into boots co-exist. I also adore dark Edwardian influences: gothic lace, romantic sleeves, luxurious velvets and matte silks. Occasionally, I go for the offbeat Swedish minimalist piece, sharply modern outfits with severe lines, unusual draping, that sort of thing. It's all a bit of a jumble really, but fashion's supposed to be fun. It's a game of dress up, waking up in the morning and deciding if you want to face the world in a 1920's tea dress or a pair of motorcycle boots.

I rarely read fashion magazines, and prefer to draw my inspiration from art, cinema, literature and history. Right now I'm channeling Downton Abbey, Midnight In Paris, Restless, and a sort of Ivy League prep that I can't help, because the campus is covered with autumn leaves and the cobblestones are slick with rain and everywhere you look a handsome boy is carrying books under his arm as he ducks beneath the gothic overhang to some building, and you can almost imagine what it was like back when girls came on trains from their nearby colleges for the big football game and everyone smoked in restaurants as they ordered martinis and oysters.

I hope you enjoyed my closet!
