Flying a Diamond DA-20 Solo. At the time I was a student pilot, with a mere 25 hrs under my belt, 6 of it solo. In this video, I taxi, run-up, take-off, and land. More videos will follow with 45° banks, stalls, slow-flight, etc... (UPDATE: I'm now a PPL!)

  • When truing the aircraft in mid air, do you use both the rudder and ailerons?

  • @scvs2 Anytime you begin a bank movement, rudder is necessary to stay coordinated (otherwise the plane does a sliding or slipping motion). Once the bank is establishing and stabilized you don't need to keep the rudder in (most cases).

  • I did all my Private training in the da-20, i have flown the da-40 and the da-42 also and nothing beats them. Nice video

  • Wow, I'd love to get the chance to pilot a DA-42...that's a NICE bird! Gotta agree the Diamonds are fantastic! Just wish I could afford my own!

  • That thumping sound is that the fuel pump or what?

  • No, for some reason when the video was spliced...the engine noise created an artifact...doesn't exist in the original video.

  • The visibility is so much better in Diamonds than in Cessnas.

  • lol well, it was attached to my headset...so it was totally hands free. I actually forgot about it once I got into my checklist flow.

  • I had my first flight training in a DA-20 yesterday. Let me tell ya, it's harder to fly than it looks. I loved it though. I'm so excited to become a Pilot, I just have sooo much to learn.

  • 3 dislikes? wtf were they expecting? haha

  • @br1ancrowell

Same here! You can't beat FADEC and gear that can extend during at any airpseed. Use those suckers as airbreaks!

  • Sweet little sports car in the sky. I only have DA40 experience not 20. They are slick birds.

  • Run-up at the hold short line?

  • I truly miss flying these planes. My club sold the last one.

  • Holy crap! Your tail number is 223DC. I fly a DA20 with the tail number 322DC. How cool!

  • @br1ancrowell I know, right? I just flew a da20 and fell in love with it! I currently have about 15 hours, and I was looking for an "old" katana for training, and the cheapest one I cound find was $95000 :'/ ah well, the good old 172 will do for now
