Donald Moncayo of the Amazon Defense Coalition, takes an soil sample of a site that was supposedly remediated by Texaco upon the expiration of the companies contract in 1990. In 1995, prompted by a lawsuit they initiated their remediation activities as part of an agreement with the Ecuadorian government. Chevron bought Texaco in 2001. As you can see by the soil sample, this supposedly remediated oil pit is still contaminated with oil, which has been leeching into the groundwater, rivers & streams over the subsequent decades. Hundreds of supposedly remediated pits exist in the region.
