All swords flexed in both directions to determine the extent of their flex and test the tempering.

So the reason bending/flexability is important for the blade is that it allows it to absorb the impact of the blow? TIL.

@heckald Blades bend and flex when you cut things with them. If the blade will not flex at all then when you cut something with it then it will break. Also when you block the blow from another sword you do it on your flat not the edge. The flat can then flex and take away the shock of the blow :D

As I recall, a flexible blade is less likely to break when it hits something hard.
