SGR J1550-5418 is a gamma-ray repeater , the sixth to be discovered, located in the constellation Norma. Long known as an X-ray source, it was noticed to became active on 23 October 2008, and then after a relatively quiescent interval
It has been observed to emit intense bursts of gamma rays at a rate of up to several per minute. At its estimated distance of 30,000 light years (~10 kpc) There is doubt that this may be as close as 6kpc

The rotation period, ~2.07 s, is the fastest yet observed for a magnetar.
The first observation of "Light echos" from a gamma-ray source, a phenomenon long known for visible stars such as novas,Ionospheric Events have been noted from these burst

  • In 1/10 of a second, that type of a neutron star, magnetar can release as much energy as the Sun would in 100,000 years. The magnetar SGR 1808-20 is less than 900 years old. Unlike any other magnetar that has been discovered, this magnetar is also a pulsar, releasing x-rays in 2 beams. From the north pole and the south pole. They call it a magnetar pulsar combo star. I like to call it a magnetulsar.

  • moi kan je voit des magnetars

    je leur montre ma bite

  • He made a typo and accidently said miles in the description it says 30k light years.

  • That's bullshit.. for one simpel reson. Earth is at a distans from ower own sun 155 miljon km.. So 30 000 miles whould be as said inside ower own planetery system.. And it's obviesly not ! It has to be 30 000 lighters to be even likly corect

  • that's actually so fucking cool it blows my head off.

  • only one prob

if the star was that close to earth it would be closer to earth then the sun and possibly the moon so no it doesnt exist.
