Some of the people named in this poem may be unknown to you unless you're an afictionado of old black and white movies.

"Some talk of Alexander,
And some of Hercules
Of Hector and Lysander,
And such great names as these..."
is from The British Grenadiers.

B.O., standing for Body Odour, was invented for an advertising campaign for Lifebuoy soap by Lever Bros.

A.D.C. means Aide-De-Camp or Adjutant, usually a young officer who assists a senior officer.

  • What is an A.D.C?

  • Aide-De-Camp - a military post similar to Adjutant.

  • This doesn't sound like Auden. Who is reading?

  • I should like my son to read this. Thanks.
