RuneScape Merchant Clans: What are they? How do they work?

RuneScape's economy is being manipulated by people who call themselves merchants. These people are really no more than scammers and price manipulators who are taking advantage of weaknesses in the Grand Exchange and naive players, effectively scamming and cheating to obtain millions of gold.
