Story of the quest for First Chair of the 2011-2012 snowboard season. By Trailer Tom and the Legendary Nate Dogggg
In this video you see Trailer Tom and Nate Dogggg getting first chair at Wolf Creek.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6th 2011-
I first heard the rumor that Wolf Creek ski area would open for the season late night on Thursday, October 7th 2011.
I saw a Facebook post with the claim the resort in south western Colorado would open with 3 feet of fresh powder on Saturday October 8th 2011.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7th 2011-
Friday morning I awoke and confirmed the rumors were true, the resort would be opening Saturday.
I immediately called Nate Dogggg and said "Nate, Wolf Creek is going to open tomorrow with amazing conditions, we gotta leave right now!"
Nate said "I'm in. We gotta get first chair."
1 hour later we were on the road to make the 200 mile journey from Breckenridge to Wolf Creek.
Nate Dogggg is the high roller type ski bum and the road trip vehicle of choice was the PinPin Films team vehicle, a white 1996 Lincoln Town car Stretch limo.
The drive was beautiful due to all the contrasting colors of green, red, and yellow Aspen tree leaves against the new fresh white snow.
I guess people were excited to see the ski racks with our snowboards on a Limo, because we got a lot of honks, thumbs ups, and smiles on the road and in the towns we stopped in for food and gas along the way.
We arrived at Wold Creek at 5:00pm on Friday to get in line for first chair at 9am the following morning.
It was snowing lightly when we pulled into the parking lot of wolf creek ski area and we were greeted by the friendly wolf creek employees.
We told the resort employees that were going to camp out all night in the snow to get the first lift and first tracks, and they were pumped.
The employees were stoked on our mission for first chair, they said thanks for coming out for opening day and we relied "Thanks for opening."
That night the parking lot filled with many cars of excited snow sliders of all kinds. We met some new friends, a dude named John and a girl named Maddie. John and Maddie joined us for some tail gating that lasted into the wee hours of the night.
It really began snowing hard around midnight.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8th 2011-
Opening Day!
This would be an opening day with conditions to remember!
Nate and I stood at the base of the Bonanza lift, waiting for the lifts to open. Lifts open at 9:00am
By 7:am there was a fresh 4-6 inches of fresh snow on top of a 3 foot plus base, for a grand total of 44 inches of snow to play in!
By 8am there were at least 40 cars in the parking lot. By 8:30am the lots were nearly full.
Snow had been falling hard and the weather was dark, snowy, and windy until just about 8:55am, when the sun came out and lit up the world for the first runs of the year. Nate Dogggg and I achieved the goal of first chair of the season. This would be our 16th consecutive year of this title (including this year).
We rode a 3 man lift called Bonanza. The honors of first chair were occupied by myself (Trailer Tom), Nate Dogggg, and the spirit of our inspiration Elmer Mulkins.
Elmer Mulkins was a long time hero that would get 1st chair at Loveland Ski area until he passed away in February 2000. We are doing our best to uphold the tradition for you Elmer.
Most people were nervous that it would be "a rock board day" But, the snow was nice and deep, and surprisingly not too many rocks. I hit one rock all day, but the rock I hit did no visible damage to my board.
We took 3 runs on the Bonanza lift, then headed over to the Treasure Lift where we found our good friend from Breckenridge Mr. Scotty Kees with a big smile on his face.
Good times we had by everyone that I talked to. Thanks to Wolf Creek and all my new friends for making the day a super jackpot blast.
Filmed by Trailer Tom, Nate Dogggg and Wess Wu.

Stoked you liked the video. I agree, opening day was super awesome. I actually live about 4 hours from Wolf Creek in a town called Breckenridge Colorado and I don't know any local wolf creekers.
I would try posting on wolf creeks facebook page.
