how it presents itself to non-English audiences? I am an American and have probably seen all versions of Tom Brown's School Days. It reminds me of the brutality of being in the Catholic Schools in the USA in the early 1960s

Anthony Murphy (Tom Brown) was absolutely adorable. I had a crush on him and watched every single episode, my eyes glued to him. He never acted again after this series, but I understand he became a barrister (attorney) and also a respected artist. *.)

@AnimalMojo: Many thanks for the info! I wouldn't have guessed it was Arthur Sullivan in a month of Sundays. Just bought the Naxos recording of the Irish symphony (coupled with Mackerras arrangement of Pineapple Poll) - impressive and enjoyable work. :-)
