George Michael produced, "Hiding Out," a documentary about gay-teens who escape from reparative-therapy bootcamps. George Michael meant for the video to be shared & seen as widely possible. George Michael commissioned Tomas Mournian to make "Hiding Out," a video about gay youth living in 'Underground-Railroad'-like Safe-Houses across America. "Hiding Out", was shown by George Michael during 'Equality Rocks," and is now the main subject of Tomas Mournian's long awaited novel 'hidden.'

Hi Burlhorse89, Thank you for your comment / question. A central problem these kids face IS social services: once they connect with a shelter, there's a very small time frame - seventy-two hours - before the admins are required to contact the parents. And, as the young woman points out, "DIdn't you think we tried ... Frankly, the gay community was afraid to touch the issue."

i've been looking for this video since 2000! thanks to youtube for making this available, and thanks to tomas for creating such a touching vision of a very hidden part of growing up queer.

Hi NoEffingWayMan, Thank you for your comment. When "Hiding Out" was originally shown, there was a lot of interest in it being seen by a larger audience. Unfortunately, HRC blocked its showing (this video specifically) when the special aired on VH-1. It's great that YouTube has made it possible to go around M.S.M., and get it out there. - Tomas

This is total insane. I think the parents that did horrible things to their children should do some time. It sickens me when parents can't have unconditional love for their kids & the way humans treat one another. This is why I wish I could win the lotto, so I can have create homeless shelters for gay teens.

So sad to hear how kids & young adults are even attacked by their own family then sent to these boot-camps who torture them, I am outraged that they even exists. My heart goes out to the young people who have been betrayed by the ones who are supposed to love them & protect them....regardless if they are straight or gay! Don't they feel beaten down enough by their peers then to have their families turn against them & so called "Health Care Facilities" brutalize them! Omg, I can't even imagine!

This morning at work someone referenced a News Report about a School Bus Driver showing the kids naked pictures of his girlfriend. My response, "that's all Men think Women are good for today." My co-worker said, "Women are more gullible/insecure today." I said, "they're growing up without Fathers and don't know what a relationship with a Man is about." My Grandma is gone, once she said, "Sex was wonderful, but there was so much more to a Marriage."
