I was going through my collection of films for another upload, and came across this rarity. I chose this one for several reasons: It's a Mack Sennet two-reel silent comedy. One of the stars is Carole Lombard in her early days on the screen. It's shot partially in black & white and part in 2-strip Technicolor! Finally, several scenes are also shot in slow motion.
As for the plot, it's pretty thin. A love triangle on a campus with a blonde co-ed who doesn't seem consider the "other" girl as an obstacle. Who will make it? Who cares when parties, sports and lots of fun are available!
I know there are several other uploads of this. Some are spread over several parts and some have the color sequence only. Thats fine but mine is edited to a single file, the black & white part is restored to monochrome and the color sequences are left intact!
Its an interesting curio that I hope you'll enjoy too.

  • More of Mack please! Other Sennett trivia:played Sherlock Holmes in 11 films;song, Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams introduced in M.S. film; Both, Abbott & Costello's Here Come the Co-Eds(1945) & It's a Mad, Mad World(1963) duplicated scenes from Sennett films; and Hollywood Cavalcade(1939) was loosely based on his life.

  • I've got another Sennett color film I'll put up soon. Thanks!

  • Thanks much for this rare treat! I had no clue that Sennett would try to make a color comedy--just goes to show there's a lot more weird stuff out there than the movie history books let on...

  • Yes...this is true! I have 2 more - another silent and an early talkie he made. I'll post them soon.

  • Carole in this picture is Carole Lombard, who was only 20 in 1928 but had already appeared in about 25 pictures. One of the screen's great stars.

  • Nice old film. Marvelous for the history. Truly a window into a bygone age.

  • Reminds me of the Wizard of Oz...first half in b&w, second in colour....

  • Great shot of Exposition Park subbing for "Beverly College" at the beginning!

  • @crankymisfit I'm glad yu said that, because I thought I saw Robert Young

  • Robert Young is in the dance scene, I read somewhere he appeared as an extra in Keystone Kops films. I wonder how many he was in? Thanks for uploading!

  • Beautiful film, thanks. Mack Sennett had his own colour process called Sennett-Color which he used in a number of films, including Radio Kisses made in 1930. Probably to avoid the fee to Technicolor!

  • I liked Sally Eilers better.

  • this is so cool!

  • Ah ..good old Carole
