Antarctic toothfish from the Ross Sea south of New Zealand are sold around the world as Chilean sea bass, a popular restaurant fish. There is still much to learn about this magnificent species and the sustainability of the fishery. Organisations including the Last Ocean Charitable Trust are campaigning for the Ross Sea to be protected as a no-take marine reserve.
Clive Evans is an Associate Professor at the University of Auckland. He was interviewed by Peter Young for an upcoming documentary about the Ross Sea.
