Rogue Neon Tetra, aggressive behavior!!??

Four days ago we bought 6 neon tetras and 5 black neon tetras. Everything was going well until day 2, when one of the black neon tetras ... all became territorial claiming about two thirds of the 20 gallon tank for himself. The other tetras are attacked if they encroach into his territory, and have to huddle into the corners of the tank. Neon tetras are supposedly peaceful community fish...

Does anyone know what's gotten into this 'Black Striped Menace'? He doesn't seem to mind the ottos in the background, but he stared down one of the cherry shrimp.

Someone said something about it being pregnant, which wouldn't be possible since they're not livebearers. Possible if she had laid eggs on that side of the aquarium though, and was trying to protect them. But what I've done to curb aggression is to take the fish out, move things around, and put them back in. That way they don't know where their territory is anymore and generally won't try to claim territory again. Just for a future reference in case this happens again. =]

i have a bala shark with 6 small tetras hes been fine up until latley he sometines will go after a neon theyre only in a 30 gallon for now check out my vids to see his size so u can learn

Bala sharks aren't aggressive they are really passive and shy when first introduced into a tank but they do need a lot of swimming space at least 100 gallons for 3 and remember they do grow to about a foot long. Hope you have good luck :)

the fish is just stressed i have tetras of my own i read on the internet if a fish is aggressive its probably just stressed

that is happening with my tetras too :/

they all try to be dominant and they are attacking eachother--one got its bottom jaw ripped off and couldnt eat so i euthanized it, another got its back fin ripped off and was killed, and another got its bottom jaw broken and its still alive.

its ridiculous.
