Must be Satan because he's scarey! :P (and nuts)

@GARYUKIP We have to give the public the illusion of choice/involvement. It keeps people happy. If the people fully understood the limits of their freedom, we would have chaos.

@loftymuses If the public aren't clever or well informed enough to make these choices, then why are they trusted enough to elect their leaders, surely a massive decision in itself? And don't forget, politicians are not all-wise academics, many of them are just slick salesmen who simply appear to know what they are talking about.

@DAVBRUBU I instinctively sensed, the minute I saw Guido try to debate with him, that this man would lap up every behavioural progressive government initiative going & probably actively campaign for more. He's a prime example of what stands against the average voter because he makes it so clear that he has absolutely no intention of accommodating any view outside his own twisted idealistic values.
To him, he's automatically right, you're automatically wrong, and that's the end of the matter.
What's the problem with this? I've discussed this with many professors in my political science classes. Since the public doesn't quite comprehend the reality of many situations, it therefore the politicians job (someone on the inside) to make the right discussion. It's all about practicability. A lot of what the public thinks would be good for the country is actually quite the opposite.

@loftymuses Are you sure you want to defend this man? He automatically elevates his opinions & values above yours whether you agree with him or not. There’s something disturbing about anyone with power/influence who elevates himself intellectually above his fellow man believing himself ‘superior’. Remember, our views are every bit as valid as his. If these elitist people were as great as they think they are the country wouldn’t be in such a mess would it!? Just look at the unrest in the UK now.

@mervintoot I think we all secretly think ourselves superior to some degree. We all want to trust our judgement over others. The only difference is, some hide it, some don't.

@loftymuses I don’t think of myself as superior; I don’t think many other people do either. When it comes to trusting our own judgement, that’s what living as a dignified human being is all about. It’s for us as individuals to decide what’s right for us. What you and I (& everyone else) personally believe is our business. These MP’s have no right to force their judgement upon us then dismiss us as ‘wrong’ if we don’t like it! Isn’t an MP’s job supposed to be representing his constituent’s views?
