Great info! I've seen clouds of every kind and at every altitude light-up bright red, pink, orange, yellow, etc. when sun angles are just right - and I have all the footage posted online to prove it :-) Even artificial clouds (jet trails) glow in low frequency colors - which chemtrail enthusiasts often use as indication of the cloud's/trail's toxic content. Thanks for watching/posting :-)

I'm reading The Cloudspotter's Guide (Gavin Pretor-Pinney) which you would probably like. The atmosphere does filter light, blue has a shorter wavelength and is diffused by dust more easily than red whose longer wavelength means it can pass through without getting broken up. Red skies happen with Altostratus clouds. This (top centre passing R to L ) being an Altocumulus (floccus?) perlucidus undulatus.

Thanks for watching and commenting! =) Be sure and check out my "Sky Spy" series (on my main channel). They use a lot of this footage, and SS2 and SS3 are in 720p HD ... Hopefully you get the HD playback options in NZ. It's a long wait for the video download but worth it if you like the sky timelapse stuff. Enjoy and happy holidays! :-)

I'll have to post a better description of my usage policies in the channel info, but for now... Basically, you can use the clips I have uploaded here on YT, provided that they aren't used for sales/profit, and credit is given for the source of the video clip; i.e. link/reference to my website (JCMDI dot C0M) or YouTube channel (YOUTUBE dot C0M/jcmegabyte). I call this "trading use for reference credits".
Commerial use/clips without watermarks must be purchased/licensed from my website. :-)

It is overwhelming at times, but I'm always happy to see others enjoying my work. YT really widens my exposure with "related videos" and he occasional featured video (woo hoo!) too. YT's insite is an interesting resource.
I've always been more of a maker than a watcher. Many of us are, but never get the chance. ...and maybe all that I've done will live on to entertain the world when my time has passed. "Ahh yes, I have a purpose." said the small gear in the giant machine. =D

That orange is so stunning.

Isn't it though? Funny how the atmosphere tends to filter blues and UV so the lower frequency reds and oranges come though at low sun angles. The Ocean seems just the opposite - red and other low-frequency light is filtered so only the higher frequency blues and violets make it down deeper. Interesting stuff =D
