Jumping Spider - Fight Club ホンチ遊び：ネコハエトリ♂によるクモ合戦

Spider fighting by Japanese jumping spiders (Carrhotus xanthogramma, family Salticidae). We have traditional culture of spider-fighting in some regions of Japan. Mature males of this species are often used in Kantoh area (central Japan around Tokyo), where the play of spider-fighting is called as "honchi" in local dialect. Here I used three gladiators of adult males, which were set free after the filming. Early-May 2009 in Japan.

繁殖期のハエトリグモの♂は好戦的で♀をめぐって互いに喧嘩します。この習性を利用し、関東地方の一部を中心にネコハエトリ♂を戦わせる「ホンチ」と呼ばれる遊びが古くか­らあるらしい。未経験者の私も見よう見真似で開催してみました。
採集・飼育してきた♂三匹を用い総当たり戦。当初は体長も測定して勝率との関係なども調べるつもりでしたが※、戦っているうちにどれがどれだか分からなくなってしまいまし­た（個体標識が必要か）。一匹は右第一脚を欠損している（-R1）。初顔合わせの初戦が常に最も白熱する。一度勝負が決まると敗者は負け癖がつくらしく、戦意喪失して逃げ­回る。不戦敗も多い。
※一般にクモの喧嘩は体の大きな個体が勝つ。

they catch small bugs such as flies.

u can rear them in captivity.
