Camara The Gambian National Cultural Dance group
practicing for their performance of Battle of Sankande. This historical story began during settlement time, between the tribes of the Mandinka and Djola. Eventually the Mandinka men of Sankande who stayed to defend their village were annihilated when the British army conquered... the village with 2 battalions of soldiers. The elders, women and children escaped to the Cassamance in Southern Senegal. This battle brought the 2 tribes together. The ballet was rehearsed and performed at Alliance in Serekunda the Gambia. Foday was the Lead drummer, Cultural and Musical Director.
