Dan and I had one hell of a day in Stamford. We actually ended up killing ourselves laughing after these epic failures. Our meetups ALWAYS go smoothly and without any problems. Here's exactly what happened:

===EPIC Fail #1===
Dan and I found a gorgeous hotel named "Hotel Zero". We proceeded into the lobby and received a few dirty looks from some "arsty fartsy" type of people. Instead of starting in the lobby, we decided to start on the lower level where no one was. At first, we could've sworn it was a TK ISIS, but then we realized it was just custom Innovation fixtures and most likely non-MRL. Well, the elevator didn't feel like going back to the basement, so after we started our cameras, it left for the upper floors and never came back due to a restricted call button. FAIL!

===EPIC Fail #2===
This was a classic "Dover" moment for me. Dan and I entered the store and saw the main elevator immediately, but not the parking elevator, which was directly to the right of us. We rode and filmed the main elevator, but then saw the parking elevator on the LL. At first, we though it was a service/freight elevator due to the key restriction. Weirdly enough, my Schindler key did not work in it. Then after the camera cut, we heard an unbelievably loud 330A motor, and heard the elevator going up. Just before we were going to leave the store, we saw the elevator, and realized that they purposely disabled LL to prevent shoplifting. This was more stupidity than humor.

===EPIC Fail #3===
Ah, some of my favorite elevators in Stamford: the old Westinghouse/Schindler bottom-drive elevators at 4 Landmark Square. Well, after Dan filmed their, the building must have closed, because I couldn't get in! He filmed these elevators while I filmed 1 Landmark Square, and just as we were about to flip-flop, the doors locked. FAIL! It probably ended up in our favor, after what the OTIS elevators in 1 Landmark Square put me through.

===EPIC Fail #4===
The thrill of riding freight elevators, well not this time. Just like Mt. Vernon, this freight elevator was exposed and had no "Employees Only" or any other restrictions on it. Naturally, we were going to ride it. One problem, it never decided to show up. Whether it was locked, turned off or even broken is unknown, but the next time we are in Stamford, this will be re-attempted. This one was actually disappointing, since it had EMS doors.

===EPIC Fail #5===
A random building Dan and I thought had an elevator, but thought wrong. This we ended up laughing and cracking jokes to, since it was just plain stupidity on our part and the building's part.

===EPIC Fail #6===
This by FAR was the "best" EPIC Fail of them all. Dan and I saw this deck from the distance. As we were walking up to the deck, we made out the shafts. With the sun's strong glare, we could have sworn we saw traction cables. We instantly got our hopes up for a traction/MRL elevator, since hydraulics were on our menu today. We thought Gen2, 400A, EcoDisc and even Synergy. Getting closer, we rolled the cameras to get our reactions. As you saw, we were greeted to a 50-foot tall hydraulic ram, followed by a few 6940A interlocks, and then the biggest slap in the face: Series 5 fixtures. As we were entering the elevator lobby all hyped-up, a nosy and obnoxious lady asked if we parked here. Honestly, we replied "no" and were told we couldn't be here. Being us, we left for about 2-3 hours, revisited and filmed the two elevators. The other bigger fail on these elevators was the temperature. No joke, it was close to 100 degrees in those elevators on a 80 degree day. Just from the fear of being entrapped, Dan and I refused to ride the other elevator on the other side of the deck, which serves all floors. For once, an OTIS fan was needed. Oddly enough, the design of the deck forces these elevators to skip the 2nd floor, which is kinda stupid. Then again, Dan and I looked at it as a win since we now had hydraulic elevators with express zones in our elevator portfolios.

Well, I hoped you "enjoyed" these fails as much as we did participating in them and laughing at them. This is also the last video from the Stamford meetup Dan and I had in May of 2011. We will probably meet again in Stamford and find some fresh content, but I hope you enjoyed all of the videos we shot! :)

  • Stamford-The City that always sleeps. One way or another.

  • This is funny. LOL

  • Was that person at the Summer Street Garage a worker or customer? I guess with the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 coming, I guess people are getting on guard over security. Also, was that a public or private parking garage?

  • Stamford should be a record of "Failevators" or maybe call Stamford "Failford".

  • Quoted from georgef551 " E-P-I-C FAAAIIIIILLLL"

  • Epic Fail #5:

    Been there, done that. :)
