Thought it was about time I made a new Amateur Transplants video. Not much new medical material to work with so I've gone back to a song from their debut album entitled "Dorsal Horn Concerto", showing how easy it is to confuse your patients by using the technical medical terminology at every opportunity.
A little note: as a graduate of Latin and Greek, I have the urge to mention that on the whole, medical terminology is approximately 50% of each language - perhaps there is slightly more Greek. I would say that anatomical vocabulary is more likely to be from Latin whereas diseases are more likely to be Greek. The lyrics following "the Latin word instead, like:" are in fact Greek. Drs Adam Kay and Suman Biswas, I'm sure, know this but of course the word "Greek" was not going to fit where a two-syllable word was needed. Good ol' scansion. Well I miss learning these ancient languages, but they have helped me understand what my own doctors are saying to me! For those who have even the remotest bit of interest in any of this, I recommend a book by Donald M. Ayers called Bioscientific Terminology: Words from Latin and Greek Stems. I am so sad! lol
Anyway, enjoy, and please check out my other AmTran videos, if you haven't already.
This video is my first HD one, first widescreen one and my first experience of editing using Windows Live Movie Maker. I would say that it is easier to get timing right in the live version than in the original Windows Movie Maker, but is less flexible. Still, hope I have done the song justice.
Dorsal Horn Concerto is a parody of "Rondo" (3rd movement) from Horn Concerto No. 4 in E flat major K495 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. So there you go!
still amazing as usual!!! :D I love EVERY ONE of your videos!
