"Mountgay" is the oldest rum distillery in the Caribbean and Alun Hill was given exclusive access to film behind the scenes.
At over 300 years old, Mountgay rum is still made the same way as it was 300 years ago - and with a boiler made in Scotland 150 years ago still generating the heat.
See employee Craig explain the rum making process - and see the 2 oldest working pot stills in the world. Subscribe - never miss a video! http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c...

Rum was first created in Barbados and that is a fact.Back in ye olden dayes Barbados was a primary producer of raw sugar which was then exported to england to be refined. In the process of creating sugar hundreds of years ago they ended up accidently creating alcohol from the by products, and the Caribbean has never been the same since...

Hmmm, this was a mildly informative video about Rum from Mount Gay. But your comments are more provacative bordering on animosity towards the great people of the Carribbean and their culture of Rum making.
PS: Did you know that British Sailors were issued with rum until the 1960's? I think.

regardless of any debate, to me it is evident that the canary islands was one of, if not the largest contributor to what we know today as Rum.

I bet if someone actually performed a study of the history of rum production in the canary islands they would find evidence of some the true "oldest distilleries" on the planet that may even pre-date the discovery of the new world!
