Scum Beat

Going through the archival photos at the Ontario College of Art and Design, I came across an event called "Scum Beat". With further investigation I learned that it was an initiation ritual that involved freshmen students wearing sack cloth and performing various "embarrassing" tasks throughout downtown Toronto. I couldn't help but notice in these old photographs that there seemed to be much more school spirit. I don't think that I support initiation rituals, but perhaps Scum Beat joined students together in a way that our current "health and safety" frosh week can't do.
In this project I reenacted the ritual within the archival photographs.
