'Everyone's Irish on St. Patrick's Day!' Or so it seems; in this short we explore the feelings of Irish and Irish descendants in Syracuse, NY about the traditional holiday. Beyond the usual cover of drunken debauchery, St. Patrick's day reveals deeper meanings in Irish culture, particularly in the communication and celebration of the sharing of food and drink. Friends prepare and share a traditional Irish meal - so much more than cabbage and potatoes!
Our film is being screened in London, England, on March 16th, in Wyllie O Hagan's St Patrick's Day Film Festival.
yes dear they did... they had to endure the Irish need not apply signs everywhere and have to settle for the crap jobs that no one would take and live in the slums and have people assume they were alcoholics simply because they r irish (and they were born in Ireland not wanna be's like u assume everyone is) Even just 10 yrs ago when i was in Tennessee when someone found i was IRISH Catholic (yes I said it!!!Irish) she wanted to know if I had a ton of brothers and sisters

Theres absolutly nothing wrong with people being proud of their Irish heritage, or celebrating St Patricks day! But those people in the film are American like it or not! My granda was born in scotland, dosnt mek me scottish!

Its great that descendents of Ireland consider themselves Irish. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a clown. I was in the Gaeltacht last year and there was more Irish-Americans than anyone else (other than teachers who werent there by choice).

And did they celebrate their 'Irish heritage' when the Irish were hated all those years ago and seen as nothing but drunks and scum? But now that its fashionable its perfectly fine to celebrate being Irish? Selectively choosing their culture as the fashion comes and goes. Plus, as I've expressed what they think is Irish and what actually is are two completely different things. There celebrating some pseudo heritage, it ain't Irish.

Oh my God I wish you people could just take the compliment. If your children or grandchildren grew up in a foreign country wouldn't you expect them to hold on to the heritage they inherited from you?

Did you watch the vid? They're celebrating the Irish in them and why not? I have young cousns in the states who are proud to be Irish even though they werent born here and if they ever tried to deny it I would be very dissapointed in them.

I dont recall any threat of a Swiss invasion in Ireland.

The way i see it if outsiders come and live and have children in Ireland they are irish citizens but not irish. They dont have irish blood floatin around in dem. The same in america. The people whos ancestors are mostly irish then i would call them irish american. There is no other way to see it as far i am concerned
