Harvard LN-WNH

North American Harvard is a two-seated training-fighter which was the 2'nd WW most popular and used school plane for fighter pilots. NorthAmerican "Harvard" is known by names as Harvard, Texan, Yellow Peril and indications as T-6 or AT-6 , AT is an abbrevation for "advanced trainer". The plane was frequently used by the Royal Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force and US Air Force as a school plane during the 2'nd World War and in Norway and other NATO countries during the post-war time. Many Norwegian fighter-pilots had their basic training on these machines in Canada during the war and in USA after the war. LN-WNH was build in 1942 and is owned by Dakota Norways flight manager amoung others, who himself had his flight education in USA in 1953 on exactly a Harvard. In 2002 Dakota Norway bought a owner part in the Harvard and is thus a part owner of the machine.

Most of the american pilots flew the Harvard as an transfer-plane for jetfighters both in the USA Navy and the US Army Air-force. The plane could also be modified to be an armed trainingfighter, equiped with machine-guns, rockets or trainingbombs. The plane has an 600 hp Pratt&Whitney star-engine. The maximum speed is 350 km/h, crusing speed at 240 km/h, wingspan is 12,8 meters, the length is 8,8 meter and a wing area at 23,5 sq.meters. All in all there was build 15.000 Harvards. The maximum reach for this machine is app. 800 km. It means that it can fly Torp - Namsos non stop. Maximum altitude is 7400 meters. The Harvard is known as a excellent airplane, and from 1940 to 1955 almost all british, american and norwegian military pilots were educated on this type of plane.
The plane is demanding to fly - not at least it takes a special technic to treat a plane with tale wheel. - "You must treat it right", as our Thore Virik says. Many of these are still in use world wide, and its, and its aggressive engine sound has ensured the Harvard a eternaly life as an wanted airplane on all the worlds airshows. This particular plane was a school-plane in Great Britain during the war. When the war was over the plane was bought by the Portugal Airforce and they used it until 1980. After that time many englishmen bought these Harvards and they were reset and sold again. LN-WNH came to Norway in 1985, the same year as the Dakota (LN-WND). This T6-D, build in USA by the North American, is not a typical trainer, but used for training weapons. It is space for two machine guns in the wings.
