He is surprisingly good with this work - It is Masur who is second rate overstated dynamics .

Vengerov has such an amazingly smooth, controlled and expressive sound. This has to be one of just a handful of truly moving performances of this concerto. I just wish Masur would have fastened the tempo in some of the "crucial" moments. This performance, along with Cho-liang Lin's, are two of the closest to my preferences in tempo and phrasing.

one brass player :P

divine

perhaps the best version, even if i love as well a few others. the playing is strong and passionate and tender. not a soap opera!
-
Gorgeous, of course, but I wish I could see him playing to maybe pick up some pointers on what exactly he's doing to sound like that with this piece.

just wow.

@hajdul Maybe at the time of the recording, but he stopped playing that violin ages ago, and now plays the "Ex-Kreutzer", which I think he owns...
-
he is just different..
I'd like to see perlman playing shostakovich the way vengerov plays it...

when was this recorded? AMAZING PERFORMANCE
This is the best of Max Bruch....to me. And Maxim Vengerov is the best violinist in the world!!
